The Czech - Slovak Ultra Trail Cup (CSUT) is a series of long-distance marches and trail runs that has been connecting runners from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Central Europe for 14 years. This unique project was created with the idea of connecting lovers of movement, nature, and running from both sides of the border.
The history of the cup began in 2013. Since then, CSUT has grown to become an integral part of the running calendar for hundreds of athletes. Events within the cup will take us to the ridges of the Beskydy, Fatra, Carpathians, Krkonoše, Low Tatras, and other beautiful mountain ranges.
The goal is not only sporting comparison, but primarily community building, sharing experiences, and mutual motivation. Each event is a test of physical and mental strength, but also a celebration of friendship and determination. Points from individual events count towards the overall ranking, and the most persistent are awarded at the end of the season.
Whether you are fighting for a place on the podium or your goal is to overcome yourself and reach the finish line, you are welcome in CSUT. Join us and discover the magic of ultra trail in the heart of Europe.
A proposal for inclusion in CSUT can be submitted not only by the organizer but also by the participants themselves or fans of the event.
1.) Inclusion and route length
a) Only an event with a length of over 90 km, whose route is completed non-stop in a single stage by walking or running, can be included in the CSUT cup. However, a length of 100 km or more is recommended.
b) Only the longest route of the entire event is counted towards the scoring.
With these exceptions and specifications:
B7 - the longest route variants for individuals and for pairs count towards CSUT, which may vary slightly depending on the route permitting process.
24-hour events:
Den Cesty and Kořeny - all performances over 90 km achieved according to the event rules count towards CSUT.
Vokoberg - all performances achieved according to the rules that pass a certain number of checkpoints count towards CSUT. This number is determined by the organizer as the equivalent of a route longer than 90 km on the ideal track line.
2.) Time limits and participants
An event that allows the participation of both runners and walkers (hikers) can be included in the CSUT cup. The overall time limit of the event should therefore not correspond to an average speed higher than 4.2 km / h (100 km / 24 hours).
In demanding mountain or winter conditions, however, it is recommended to extend the limit even further. Purely running events intended only for fast runners are excluded from CSUT.
3.) Timekeeping and results
Logically, only an event where the organizer records and then publishes the finishing times of the participants can be in the CSUT cup.
Purely hiking 100 km events, where time is not recorded but only the completion of the march, therefore cannot be in CSUT. Organizers of 100 km hiking events who are interested in CSUT can, however, change this.
It is recommended, however, that when changing this approach, the participation of fast runners is taken into account and the opening times of checkpoints and refreshment stations are adjusted accordingly.
4.) Surface and character of the track
CSUT is a trail (off-road) cup. Therefore, events with a predominantly asphalt surface are excluded from CSUT.
The maximum permissible limit for an asphalt surface is 50 percent of the route, but it is recommended to eliminate asphalt sections as much as possible. Furthermore, events whose route consists of the same continuous loop or an out-and-back course that participants complete repeatedly are excluded from CSUT.
5.) Scheduling conflicts
Only one event - a CSUT event - can take place on a single date.
a) In the event of a scheduling conflict, it is primarily up to the organizers to reach an agreement with each other. If the organizers cannot agree, preference is given to the more traditional event within the cup. The decisive factor is the year of entry into CS1000 between 2009 - 2012 and into CSUT from 2013 onwards.
b) This rule regarding the more traditional event does not apply if an event is shifted by more than one week within two consecutive years.
In this case, preference is given to the event that did not shift. The only exception to the one-week shift rule is the Jarním Šluknovskem 100 km event, which traditionally takes place at Easter, and therefore shifts by more than one week every year.
c) If an event is not held for more than two consecutive years, it is viewed as a new event with no history under the rule of the more traditional event.
d) If the organizer of an event decides for any reason to retroactively move an event outside the previously announced date to a date when another announced event is scheduled to take place, the event taking place on its originally properly announced date will be given preference in the event of a date clash.
6.) Foreign events
Exceptionally, a foreign event in countries bordering the Czech or Slovak Republic may also be included in CSUT.
7.) Amendment for the CSUT 2020 / 2021 season
a) Events that did not take place in 2020 are treated, from the perspective of Article 5, as if they had taken place on their originally announced regular dates.
b) Events that were moved from 2020 to 2021 and will take place before the CSUT 2020 awards ceremony will still count towards the CSUT 2020 competition. Postponed events from 2020 that will take place after the CSUT 2020 awards ceremony will count towards the CSUT 2021 season.
c) Point 7b does not apply to events that were postponed by a full year and will therefore take place on the regular event date for 2021.
8.) Amendment for stage events from 2026 onwards
For events that have multiple stages, inclusion is governed by these rules:
a) Events that have stages immediately following each other without a pause (for example, "Loučení 170" divided into two stages) are judged as a single event. However, at least one of the stages must measure more than 90 km nonstop.
b) Events that have multiple stages longer than 90 km (for example, EKUT or Čertovská výzva).
In this case, each stage is judged separately as an independent event, and the inclusion of individual stages is possible if the stage complies with all CSUT rules.
